How To Use This Calculator
Using this energy calculator is a simple and will help you determine the costs of running your appliance. Click on ‘Calculate’ to use the predefined values, or enter your daily usage in hours, appliance watts, and your current energy costs in dollars. The calculator will provide you with the daily, monthly, and yearly results. It’s important to ensure the accuracy of the information entered to get the most accurate results.
Hours Used Per Day
Enter the number of hours you estimate the appliance will be on throughout the day. To use fractions of an hour please use a decimal point in the form.
For example: 1 hour and 30 mintes would be 1.5, and 3 hours and 15 minutes would be 3.25
Power Used in Watts
The calculator already includes a default average wattage. If your appliance uses a different wattage then enter it in the calculator.
Your Energy Rate in kWh
The calculator includes an average energy rate (price in $/kWh) to use for the calculation. This may not be the exact price that you’re currently paying for electricity. If you know your energy rate please enter your price per kilowatt-hour.
Energy Consumption
The Side-by-Side Fridge is an appliance that is commonly used in homes all over the world. It’s a great way to keep food and beverages chilled and easily accessible. However, it is important to understand that this appliance consumes a significant amount of energy. The energy consumed by this appliance is measured in watts (W).
To put this in perspective, a typical Side-by-Side Fridge uses about 800 watts of energy. This means that if you leave your fridge on for an hour, it will consume 800 watt-hours (Wh) of energy. Over time, this can add up to a significant amount of energy usage, which can ultimately lead to higher energy costs.
Importance and Relevance
The importance of understanding the energy consumption and cost of using this appliance lies in the fact that it can have a significant impact on people’s lives. Higher energy usage leads to higher energy bills, which can be a major concern for many households. Additionally, understanding the energy consumption of different appliances is important when it comes to making eco-friendly choices that help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Cost in Dollars of Energy Usage
Calculating the cost of using a Side-by-Side Fridge involves a simple formula. The formula is as follows:
Cost per hour = Energy consumption (watts) x Energy price (kWh)
Using the default energy consumption of 800 watts and the current energy price of $0.12/kWh, we can calculate the hourly cost of using this appliance as follows:
Cost per hour = 800 watts x $0.12/kWh
Cost per hour = $0.096
To calculate the daily, monthly, and yearly costs, the following examples can be used:
- Daily cost = $0.096 x 24 = $2.304
- Monthly cost = $2.304 x 30 = $69.12
- Yearly cost = $69.12 x 12 = $829.44
As you can see, the cost of using a Side-by-Side Fridge can add up very quickly.
Money Saving Tips
Here are a few tips for reducing the energy consumption and cost of using a Side-by-Side Fridge:
- Keep the fridge at a consistent temperature. Fluctuating temperatures can cause the appliance to consume more energy.
- Avoid overloading the fridge. When the fridge is overfilled, air cannot circulate properly, and the compressor has to work harder to maintain the temperature.
- Ensure proper maintenance. Regularly cleaning the coils and changing the air filter will improve efficiency.
- Keep the fridge away from heat sources. Placing the fridge near heat sources such as ovens and windows can cause it to consume more energy.
- Use energy-saving modes. Many newer models come equipped with energy-saving modes that can help reduce energy consumption.
By following these simple tips, you can significantly reduce the energy consumption and cost of using a Side-by-Side Fridge. Not only will this help to reduce your energy bills, but it will also help to reduce your carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner, greener planet.
