Electric Oven Energy Calculator (Cost and kWh Usage)

Toaster Oven

If you own an electric oven, you probably use it regularly for baking and cooking meals. However, while it may be a convenient appliance, it’s important to understand the energy consumption and costs associated with using an electric oven. In this article, we’ll dive into these topics and offer money-saving tips to help you reduce your electricity bill.

How To Use This Calculator

Using this energy calculator is a simple and will help you determine the costs of running your appliance. Click on ‘Calculate’ to use the predefined values, or enter your daily usage in hours, appliance watts, and your current energy costs in dollars. The calculator will provide you with the daily, monthly, and yearly results. It’s important to ensure the accuracy of the information entered to get the most accurate results.

Hours Used Per Day

Enter the number of hours you estimate the appliance will be on throughout the day. To use fractions of an hour please use a decimal point in the form.

For example: 1 hour and 30 mintes would be 1.5, and 3 hours and 15 minutes would be 3.25

Power Used in Watts

The calculator already includes a default average wattage. If your appliance uses a different wattage then enter it in the calculator.

Your Energy Rate in kWh

The calculator includes an average energy rate (price in $/kWh) to use for the calculation. This may not be the exact price that you’re currently paying for electricity. If you know your energy rate please enter your price per kilowatt-hour.

Energy Consumption

The energy consumption of an electric oven can vary depending on the wattage of the oven and the duration of its use. As mentioned in the defaults, an electric oven typically uses 2150 watts. If you operate the oven for one hour, it will consume 2.15 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of energy. The longer you use the oven, the more energy it will consume.

It’s important to note that energy consumption isn’t just determined by the oven’s wattage, but also by the temperature and cooking mode used. For example, if you bake at a lower temperature, the oven will use less energy than when you broil at a higher temperature. Similarly, convection mode uses less energy than traditional bake mode. Understanding the energy consumption of your oven in different modes can help you make informed decisions about how to use it more efficiently.

Importance and Relevance

It’s important to consider the energy consumption of an electric oven because it has a significant impact on our daily lives. For one, it contributes to our electricity bills and can add up to a significant cost over time. Additionally, the growing concern of environmental sustainability has made energy consumption an important issue for many households. By reducing energy consumption, we can lower our carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable future.

Cost in Dollars of Energy Usage

To calculate the cost of energy usage for your electric oven, you’ll need to know the current energy price in your area. In the defaults, we’ve used $0.12/kWh. To calculate the hourly cost of using an electric oven, you can simply multiply the energy consumption by the energy price. For example, if you use the oven for one hour, the cost would be:

2.15 kWh x $0.12/kWh = $0.26/hour

To calculate the daily, monthly, or yearly cost, simply multiply the hourly cost by the duration of use. For example, if you use the oven for two hours daily, the monthly cost would be:

2 hours x 2.15 kWh x $0.12/kWh x 30 days = $15.48/month

Money Saving Tips

  1. Cook multiple items at once: When using your oven, try cooking multiple items at once to save energy. This way, you can avoid heating the oven multiple times for different meals.

  2. Use the oven light: When checking on your food, use the oven light instead of opening the door. This will help you to conserve heat and reduce cooking time.

  3. Preheat only when necessary: Preheating the oven isn’t always necessary. Unless the recipe specifically calls for it, try skipping the preheat step.

  4. Opt for convection mode: Convection mode uses a fan to circulate hot air, which can reduce cooking time and energy consumption.

  5. Keep your oven clean: A clean oven can operate more efficiently, as grime and dirt can affect heating and energy consumption.

By implementing these tips and being mindful of your oven usage, you can save money on your electricity bill while contributing to a more sustainable future.
