Agera is a status-sensitive provider page

Agera Energy should be handled differently from an active Texas provider with current plan cards. The most important fact for shoppers is not a promotional claim. It is the company's 2019 bankruptcy and the later sale of a portion of its retail customer accounts to Constellation.

Constellation's own announcement said Agera filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2019 and that Constellation completed the acquisition of a portion of Agera's electric retail and natural gas customer accounts in November 2019. It also said the deal involved customer contracts only and did not include the Agera brand name.

What changed after the 2019 sale

The Constellation transaction matters because it separates old Agera customer contracts from the Agera brand itself. Customers whose contracts were assumed by Constellation were expected to see Constellation branding once enrolled by Constellation, with service continuity and contract terms honored according to the announcement.

That history means a current shopper should not treat Agera as a normal enrollment destination unless there is a current, verifiable plan document from a licensed seller. A legacy brand can remain visible online long after the practical customer path has moved somewhere else.

Residential and business context

Agera was not only a residential electricity brand. Constellation described it as a competitive retail energy marketing business serving commercial and industrial, small business, and residential power and gas customers across multiple states. That broader footprint is why old Agera references may show up in both home and business energy contexts.

For Texas users, that history is useful only if it helps identify the current account holder or successor supplier. It should not be used to infer that a current Agera-branded residential plan is available in your ZIP code.

If you still see Agera on a bill or notice

If an Agera name appears on an older account record, compare it against the provider name on the most recent bill. The current bill should identify the retail electric provider responsible for billing and customer service. If the account was moved to another supplier, that supplier's documents control the current relationship.

Keep the old Agera document if it includes contract dates, cancellation terms, or assignment language. Then verify the current provider, contract end date, and renewal terms directly before switching or canceling. Do not rely on a search-result summary for an account with a legacy provider history.

The right next step for new service

For new Texas electricity service, compare active providers with current EFLs, current Terms of Service, and a clear enrollment path. If a provider page cannot show current plan documents, skip it for enrollment decisions and use it only as historical context.

Agera's page is most useful as a warning against stale provider data. The safer shopping path is to use your ZIP code, compare live offers, and save the documents for the provider that is actually accepting new service at your address.
