Chariot is built for more than a basic fixed rate

Chariot Energy presents itself as a Texas provider for homes, businesses, large industrial facilities, and grid-services customers. For residential shoppers, the most useful point is that Chariot is not only selling standard fixed-rate electricity. Its public site also highlights time-of-use plans and solar buyback options.

That makes Chariot worth comparing if you have rooftop solar, can shift usage, or want a provider with a broader energy-technology story. It also means the plan documents matter more. A time-of-use or buyback plan can be excellent for one household and a poor fit for another.

Solar buyback needs its own math

A Chariot solar buyback plan should be evaluated separately from a normal fixed-rate plan. Look at the import rate, export credit, monthly charges, credit rollover rules, net-exporter language, and any conditions that let the provider change or suspend buyback treatment.

Do not compare only the export credit. A high buyback number can be offset by a higher import rate or fees. A lower buyback number can still work if the base plan is strong and your home consumes most of the energy it produces.

Time-of-use only helps if your schedule matches

Chariot's residential positioning includes time-of-use plans. Those plans can reward customers who shift major usage away from expensive periods or into cheaper windows. They can hurt customers whose air conditioning, cooking, laundry, and EV charging all happen during higher-cost hours.

Before choosing a time-of-use plan, check your interval usage if you can. If you do not have interval data, use your routine honestly. A plan is not flexible just because the provider says it is. It is flexible only if your household can actually move usage.

The business side is a different product

Chariot also speaks to small and medium businesses, large commercial customers, industrial users, data centers, and grid services. A large business should not treat that as the same product a household buys. Commercial electricity can involve custom pricing, load-shape assumptions, pass-through charges, and operational risk management.

If you are shopping for a business meter, ask for the quote structure in writing. Confirm whether the price is fixed, indexed, shaped around usage, or tied to market conditions.

Before choosing Chariot

Save the EFL, Terms of Service, Your Rights as a Customer disclosure, solar buyback terms, and any time-of-use schedule before enrolling. Confirm the contract term, early termination fee, renewable content, buyback rules, renewal terms, and whether customer data is shared for a solar or grid program.

Chariot can be a strong fit when its specialized plan structure matches your actual usage. If you do not have solar and cannot shift usage, compare the basic fixed-rate math against simpler providers before giving the advanced features any weight.
