MP2 is now mostly historical residential context

MP2 Energy is best understood through the Shell Energy transition. Shell announced in 2022 that MP2 Energy's residential business was being rebranded as Shell Energy Solutions in Texas under PUCT number 10174.

That history matters because many old MP2 pages and reviews still exist. A shopper should not assume those pages represent a current open residential enrollment path.

Shell later exited Texas residential service

Houston Public Media reported in March 2025 that Shell Energy ended its Texas residential electricity business and sold remaining customers to NRG. That makes MP2 and Shell residential content primarily useful for account-history and transition context.

Former customers should keep Shell, MP2, and NRG notices together. Those documents explain whether a rate, contract end date, or renewal rule was supposed to remain in place after the customer transfer.

Shell Energy still exists, but not as a simple residential page

Shell Energy's current public site focuses on business energy, wholesale power, environmental products, and cleaner energy solutions. That is different from a ZIP-code residential plan-shopping page.

A commercial or industrial buyer may still find Shell Energy relevant. A household looking for new Texas electricity service should compare active residential REPs with current EFLs.

Do not use old Shell or MP2 rates as a benchmark

Old MP2 or Shell Energy residential EFLs can explain what a customer once signed, but they should not be used as a current shopping benchmark. Texas delivery charges, product availability, and provider ownership can change.

If you were moved to another provider, compare the successor plan's current documents and renewal date. A transferred account can become expensive if it rolls into a holdover product.

What new shoppers should compare

New residential shoppers should compare active providers serving their ZIP code. Start with fixed-rate plans, then evaluate green content, solar buyback, bill credits, and time-of-use structures only when they match your household.

If the Shell brand was the draw, compare brand trust against current plan math. The current EFL is more important than a past brand relationship.

Before relying on MP2 information

Check the date, provider name, and legal entity on every MP2 or Shell Energy document. MP2 Energy Texas LLC, Shell Energy Solutions, and any successor provider may appear in different parts of the account history.

This page now treats MP2 as a transition-aware provider profile. It helps former customers understand the brand path and keeps new shoppers pointed toward providers that are currently enrolling residential customers.
