Payless Power Electricity Plans
Payless Power offers a variety of prepaid electricity plans to residential and commercial customers in Texas. Some of the plans that Payless Power offers include:
Pay-As-You-Go: This plan allows customers to pay for their electricity as they use it, with no long-term contracts or credit checks required.
Fixed Rate: This plan offers a fixed electricity rate for a specific period of time, typically 6 or 12 months.
It is important to note that Payless Power’s electricity plans and rates may vary depending on the customer’s location and energy usage.
Pay-as-you-go
Payless Power allows you to recharge your account by making payments from your phone or online whenever the balance is low to keep your account always filled to your needs. Traditional electric companies normally have to run a credit-check on you before allowing you so sign up for a new service and do not have pay-as-you-go plan options.
Flexible Plans
When you select a flexible plan with Payless Power, they won’t ask for a deposit, run a credit check, or tie you into a long-term commitment. Their energy plans are designed to accommodate your lifestyle and financial needs.
Payless Power Contract Length
Payless Power primarily offers plans with a 6-month, 12-month, or month-to-month no-contract plans.
The term length of an electricity plan refers to the length of time that the plan is in effect. Some electricity plans have a fixed term length, which means that the rate and terms of the plan remain the same for a specific period of time. Other plans may have a variable term length, which means that the rate and terms of the plan may change over time.
The term length of an electricity plan can range from a few months to several years. In deregulated electricity markets like Texas, where Payless Power operates, customers have the freedom to choose their plan. This means that customers can select a plan with a shorter or longer term length, depending on their needs and preferences.
It is important to note that electricity plans with longer term lengths may offer more stable rates and fewer rate changes, but they may also have higher early termination fees if the customer decides to switch to a different plan before the term is up. On the other hand, electricity plans with shorter term lengths may offer more flexible rates and the ability to switch to a different plan more easily, but they may also have higher rates overall. Customers should carefully consider their needs and budget when selecting an electricity plan with the right term length for them.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Prepaid Electricity
Prepaid electricity plans have become an increasingly popular option for residential and commercial customers in Texas. We have a full article about prepaid electricity plans in our blog, but here’s a short summary:
These plans allow customers to pay for their electricity usage in advance and keep a positive account balance that is known ahead of time instead of being surprised when the energy bill arrives.
Additionally, prepaid plans normally feature no credit check and no long-term contracts.
Keep in mind, however, that prepaid plans usually have limited availability and are not offered by all electricity providers. They also run the risk of potential disconnections. If you run out of balance in your account, your power may be disconnected until you add more credit.
How long does it take for service to start?
Most homes in Texas already have a smart meter installed. If that’s the case then you can expect service to start the same day, or by the following business day. Please note that if the meter cannot be turned on remotely or if your city requires a permit, there might be a delay.
Payless Power Service Areas
If you live in a deregulated area in Texas you’re in luck, and Payless Power can service your home or business. The following service areas and utilities are serviced by Payless Power: Oncor Electric Delivery, Centerpoint, AEP Texas Central, AEP Texas North, Texas-New Mexico Power
Payless Power Cancellation Fees
Month-to-month or prepaid plans do not have cancellation fees.
If you signed up for a fixed-priced plan that has a contract and you need to cancel it early you may be charged an early cancellation fee, refer to the EFL document you received when signing up to determine the exact amount.
Remember, if you are moving, you will not be charged a cancellation fee per Texas law.
Payless Power FAQs
-
How do I transfer my service to a new address?
Payless Power will create a new account for you in case you move to a new address, as they do not support account transfers.
-
How to cancel service?
To cancel service call the customer care department. If you have any balance left on your account you'll be eligible for a refund for the amount that is left. It is important to remember that your account is not automatically cancelled once funds are depleted or when a disconnection occurs.
-
Can I get a paper bill?
You won't get a paper bill for your electric usage at the end of the month for prepaid plans. Instead, you need to deposit money into your account before using it and you'll receive an invoice and daily meter readings by email/text. It works similar to how you would fill up your car with gas. You fill up your tank by adding money to your Payless Power account, and you keep an eye on the "gauge" to see when you need to refuel before the balance drops below $0.00.
Report a Payless Power Outage
If you have a power outage with Payless Power you will need to contact the utility company directly (also known as TDU - transmission and delivery utility). This is a different company than Payless Power. Your utility company is determined by your service address, and there are 5 of these TDUs in Texas:
- Oncor - (888) 313-4747
- AEP Texas Central - (800) 277-2177
- AEP Texas North - (877) 373-4858
- Centerpoint - (800) 332-7143
- Texas New Mexico Power (TNMP) - (888) 866-7456
Please remember, if you have a power outage, you should not contact Payless Power about it, but rather your TDU company
